When someone is terminally ill, there are many issues to be addressed. For example, the clinical aspects of terminal care; the ethics around whether to treat or not to treat; most importantly, encouraging independence. These issues need to be looked at in detail alongside offering choices, protecting quality of life, caring for the whole person, and providing palliative care in a residential home or in their own home. The provision of holistic, person – centred care provides quality of life for the person concerned which should also address the fact that we all have spiritual needs and that these are different to religious needs.
